Cuttack, Aug. 27: Police today arrested a 33-year-old married man, who holds an MBA degree, on charges of uploading morphed pictures of a 21-year-old college student on various websites.
Manabhanjan Sahu, who works with a private company in Bhubaneswar, was caught from Patia. “The accused had a personal vendetta against the victim and posted morphed nude and semi-nude pictures of her online,” said additional director-general (crime branch) B.K. Sharma.
Sharma said Sahu, who hails from Berhampur, has been staying in Bhubaneswar for the past four years. The victim used to stay in the same locality as Sahu. He had downloaded her photographs from her Facebook account, morphed them and posted them online. The girl then lodged a complaint with the cyber crime cell. Sahu was nabbed after the Internet protocol address was traced to his laptop.
“This incident indicates that educated youths are uploading indecent content by morphing pictures of girls, whether to defame them or settling scores with them. However, our cyber crime cell has adopted advanced technology to track such criminals,” Sharma said.
An official of the cyber police station said the MBA graduate had been arrested under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology (Amendment) Act 2008.
On May 31, a 22-year-old techie was booked for allegedly posting photographs and sexually explicit material of a girl on a social networking website. The accused, Sushant Mishra of Rajabagicha Labour Colony in Cuttack, was an engineer working with a private telecommunication company and had uploaded the pictures of the girl after she rejected his marriage proposal.
On April 18, Sidharth Shankar Pati of Mangalabag was arrested for uploading and circulating morphed obscene pictures of school and mass education minister Rabi Narayan Nanda online. Officials said Pati wanted to take revenge against a Koraput-based astrologer and had therefore posted morphed and obscene pictures of the man’s daughter along with the minister in the same frame on five to six pornographic websites.
In September last year, cops had arrested an ex-army man, Jayanta Das, for allegedly posting personal details of a woman on a wife-swapping website.
