Sambalpur, Sept. 23: Kuchinda police have detained a person for allegedly making and circulating obscene videos involving local women.
Some residents of Kuchinda (80km from here) had met the district superintendent of police Akhileswar Singh and sought his immediate intervention in this regard.
Singh assured the locals of taking appropriate action against the accused involved in the crime.
“A man from Kuchinda town has been detained. We are investigating into the matter now,” said inspector in charge of Kuchinda police station Prashanta Meher.
The police have conducted raids at a few places. The incident came to light after some mobile phone users in the town received the clips.
“One can now see the visuals in mobile phones of several youth in Kuchinda. However, if timely action is not taken against the culprits, these videos can make way to the internet,” said state secretary of Biju Yuva Janata Dal, Sanjit Mohanty, who had led the group of Kuchinda locals.
“The police must find out whether they were filmed under pressure or it was a part of an organised racket operating in Kuchinda,” said Mohanty. “Strict action should be taken against the people who are involved in the making of such videos,” said a councillor of the Kuchinda Notified Area Council Sushil Kar.
Three lakh stolen
Goons took off with gold and silver ornaments worth of over Rs 3 lakh on Tuesday after break opening the luggage box of a motorcycle.
The two-wheeler belonged to Hemant Kamila, a jeweller from Panpana in Kendrapara district.
