Balasore, May 20: A 25-year-old woman has accused her husband and three of his associates of gang rape. On the direction of the State Commission for Women, district police have registered a case of gang rape against four persons.
The police are probing the allegation and have carried out a medical examination of the victim.
However, the culprits are absconding.
The complainant has alleged that she was raped in turns by the accused persons under the direction of her husband on June 20 last year, 13 days after they got married.
She said that her marriage was solemnised with Basanta Mohanty, 33, a resident of Ramchandrapur of Gud gram panchayat under Soro block, on June 6 last year in a village temple.
Her parents had given Rs 25,000 in cash, besides other household goods and ornaments as dowry.
She alleged that soon after her marriage, her husband demanded Rs 1 lakh more and began to torture her both physically and mentally.
As her parents, residents of Uhad village under Basudedevpur block of Bhadrak, could not fulfil her husband’s demands, the torture increased.
On the fateful day, her husband entered their bedroom along with three others. One of them was holding a bottle filled with some liquid. Her husband allegedly asked her to have sex with them so that he could earn some money, the victim said.
When she refused to oblige, they forcibly raped her one after another by tying her and gagging her mouth.
They threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone. The culprits threatened to set her parents’ house on fire if she disclosed the incident, she said.
However, despite the threat, she informed the police at the Anantapur outpost. When the local police did not respond to her complaint, she approached the State Commission for Women.
The commission directed the Basudevpur police to take up the case. Since the incident had occurred within Soro police jurisdiction, the case was registered yesterday.
“Acting on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered under sections 376(d), 498(a), 506 and 34 of IPC against the husband and three others. The in–laws were also included booked for dowry torture,” said inspector in-charge of Soro police station Raisan Murmu.
“The case is under investigation. The medical examination of the victim has been carried out. Search is on for the accused persons, who are absconding,” he said.
