Bhawanipatna: A Class III student was allegedly raped by his uncle at Bachaka village in Biswanathpur police limits in Kalahandi district.

Police on Wednesday detained the accused, a distant uncle of the girl after her mother lodged a complaint at Biswanathpur police station.

Sources said the incident took place when there was no one at home on Tuesday. The man allegedly lured the girl to the nearby forest on the pretext of plucking berries. He allegedly raped the child there. The matter came to light when the girl narrated her ordeals to her mother on Tuesday night.

Biswanathpur police station inspector-in-charge Kanhu Charan Swain said they had detained the man. "We have registered a case based on the complaint and detained the accused. The girl has been sent for medical test," he said.
