Bhubaneswar: The civic body will boost its revenue collection by renting out its share at the BMC-Keshari Mall at Unit-II and the BMC-Bhawani Mall at Saheed Nagar.

Shops at the BMC-Keshari Mall will shortly be auctioned online, while the same at the BMC-Bhawani Mall will be rented out at a lower price. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is expecting to earn Rs 4 crore per month from the BMC-Keshari Mall and at least Rs 15 lakh by renting out the available space at the BMC-Bhawani Mall, said an official source.

Both the malls have been constructed in the public-private partnership mode. The civic body had problems in renting out its share at both the malls because of a deviation of building plan at the BMC-Kehsari Mall and high price at the BMC-Bhawani Mall.

"Our private partner had deviated from the approved plan at the Unit-II mall, for which it was not getting the occupancy certificate. But, those have now been sorted. We have lowered rent at the Saheed Nagar mall and hope to let out the rest of the space shortly," said a civic official.

In another development, the corporation has decided to hold an online auction to rent out at least 73 units at the BMC-Keshari Mall. "We have fixed the prices and will notify the dates for online auction on our website. The auction will be done in a transparent manner," said mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

The civic body has 9,200sqft floor area as its share at the BMC-Keshari Mall and about 72,000sqft floor area at the BMC-Bhawani Mall. It will rent out the space at the BMC-Keshari Mall at Rs 60 per square feet, while the same at the BMC-Bhawani Mall will be rented out at Rs 30 per square feet.
