Bhubaneswar, June 27: A woman Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, who had accused an inspector and three constables of trying to outrage her modesty, today met the chairman of the state human rights commission demanding proper investigation into the matter.

On June 21, the constable lodged a complaint with the Government Railway Police (GRP) against the inspector in-charge, RPF, Bhubaneswar police station, B. Ramu, and three constables working with her.

The woman today complained that though she had brought the matter to the notice of the higher-ups in her department, no action had yet been taken against the accused. “I am even being pressurised to withdraw the case. In fact, this forced me to stay at home for sometime,” said the mother of a two-year-old child.

In another development, the railway officers said a team, headed by a senior officer, was investigating the case. They have recorded the statements of the inspector and the woman constable.

The constable said she had been harassed by the inspector for the past few months. She was being intentionally assigned night duty. She alleged that recently the inspector tried to outrage her modesty with the cooperation of three other RPF constables. “When I could take it no more, I lodged the complaint,” she said. The GRP sources said probe was going on.

The inspector, on the other hand, refuted the charge saying that the constable had brought such allegations to avoid departmental action against her.

According to the RPF officers, on June 21, the woman constable was deployed on platform No. 1 where she had collected money from a passenger. Following complaint from the passenger, the inspector sent a confidential report against her to the higher authorities.

“Fearing departmental action she has lodged the complaint,” said an officer. Pratima Lenka, a senior female constable, too, dismissed the charges brought against the seniors by her colleague.
