INS Chilika parade held

Bhubaneswar, Jan. 16: The passing out parade of the senior secondary recruits (SSR), Naviks (general duty), matric recruits (MR) non-matric recruits (NMRs) Naviks (domestic branch) of the Indian Navy and coast guard, was held at INS Chilika on Friday.

The parade was reviewed by vice-admiral, K.N. Sushil and flag officer commanding in chief Southern Naval Command who was the chief guest for the ceremony.

In his address to the passouts, the commander-in-chief stressed that they should work hard to fulfil the expectations of the citizens and make the country proud by guarding the maritime boundary.

He congratulated the staff and instructors of INS Chilka for giving effective basic training to the recruits and transforming them from civilian to sea warriors.

A total of 2,170 trainees, comprising of 1,647 SSRs 230 MRs NMRs and 293 Naviks, passed out successfully.

These trainees will be deputed to various training schools for professional courses, which will gear them to man frontline ships, submarines and air squadrons of the Indian Navy and coast guard.

Apart from regular classroom instructions, the trainees were imparted training in outdoor and water activities in order to develop physical stamina, strength, espirit–de-corps and camaraderie.

The training also exposed the students to various adventure activities such as route march, sailing expedition to Rambha and the Chilika mouth river, outdoor camps, weapons, firing, jal tarang and lake swimming.

Regimental aspects of training were also imbibed in them through drill, cross country, seamanship and troop games.

The trainees passed out from the portals of the training establishment INS Chilika after a rigorous basic training curriculum that extended to 24 weeks, which transforming them into confident and disciplined sailors.

Among the passing trainees Deepak Sivdash SSR, was awarded the Best All-Rounder SSR for scoring 80 per cent marks in overall aggregate for academics, service subjects and outdoor activities.

He received the chief of naval staff rolling trophy and flag officer commanding –in-chief southern naval command gold medal.
