Puri, July 20: Lord Jagannath and His divine siblings were offered special drinks during the adhara pana neeti held today evening. The ritual marks the deities’ last day on the chariots outside the temple.
The servitors conducted adhara pana a day after the deities’ suna besha.
“First, they return from a journey and then showcase their golden avatar for devotees. This makes the Trinity tired, and to replenish them, the servitors prepare an energetic health drink. The offering of the drink is named adhara pana,” said Surya Narayan Rathasharma, an expert on Jagannath culture.
The drink is made of a blend of milk cream, cheese, sugar, banana, camphor, nuts, black pepper and various herbal extracts, including tulsi, said Rathasharma.
It was filled in nine pots and each of the deities was offered three pots each.
