Cuttack, Feb. 16: Orissa High Court will consider the necessity of a judicial probe into the case of the alleged molestation of a lady police inspector tomorrow.

The division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi fixed the date after taking note of the case records submitted before it.

The case records included the English version of the lady police inspector's complaint, FIR registered on the basis of it and her statement recorded before a magistrate. The court was hearing two PILs - one filed by advocate Shivsankar Mohanty and another by the Orissa High Court Bar Association.

Both the PILs sought a judicial probe by a high court judge "to inquire into the incident to find out the truth of the allegations and give suggestions to prevent such type of occurrences in the future".

Earlier, the court had asked the government advocate "to obtain instructions from the government on the issue".

While producing the necessary records pertaining to the case, government advocate Ramakanta Mohapatra said the government was prepared to abide by whatever order the court passed on the issue.

Appearing on behalf of the bar association, senior advocate Ashok Mohanty pressed for an interim direction to the print and electronic media not to publish or telecast "exaggerated, unverified and unnecessary news on the issue as it will not only worsen the situation but completely tarnish and damage the reputation of the institution involved". In the petition, the bar association has named publishers of five news dailies (both Odia and English) and channel heads of seven Odia news channels as parties in the case. The Telegraph has not been named.

A lady police inspector had lodged a complaint against two lawyers, both members of the bar association for allegedly molesting her inside a lift on the premises of the high court, at Lalbag police station on February 9.
