Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19: A wide range of hues and motifs will surely attract buyers at the ongoing Special Handloom Expo in the city
With Ganesh Puja round the corner and Durga Puja only a month away, shoppers can hop to the three-week expo that began on Exhibition Ground on August 13. The expo has housed about 30 kiosks from different districts. Offering handmade fabrics at attractive discounts, exhibition has been organised by Boyanika under the aegis of state handloom, textiles and handicrafts department.
The artisans-cum-sellers represent various weaver cooperative societies. Their fabrics sport enticing motifs that amalgamate style and tradition. Wide range of saris, suits, dhotis and bed sheets are available. Stoles and towels can also be found at the expo.
The biggest kiosk like previous years has been given to Boyanika that is offering lucrative discounts, too. “Sambalpuri saris and Tussar silk products are always in demand. This year we have brought many new designs that will be liked by our customers,” said the salesperson at the kiosk. Another kiosk set up by Balangir artisans have delightful variety of tribal art saris. “Tribal art saris are much appreciated in the capital. We do a good business every year and I am hoping for the same this year,” said Munna, the sales person. Kiosks are offering fascinating discounts up to 30 per cent.
Artisans said a handmade sari could consume from two days to 10 days of labour. The saris have been priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 15,000.
