Bhubaneswar, June 29: A security guard was murdered at Bomikhal level crossing, 200 metres away from National Highway 203, here last night.
Police said Trinath Trilochan Parida, alias Kanha, 26, died when the killers had smashed his head with a stone.
The police said they had got the information about the murder around 3am.
They said Parida, who used to work as a security guard in a private company, had a criminal past with cases of theft and rioting against his name. He had also served a prison term.
The cops have arrested two persons, Subash Jena and Chandan Jena, in connection with the murder.
Though the police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the crime, sources said the murder might have taken place because of dispute over sharing of stolen railway scrap materials in the area.
The cops have also recovered empty liquor bottles from the spot. One of Parida’s elder bothers is lodged in Jharpara jail after being convicted in a murder case. Another of his brothers was murdered last year.
Parida’s mother Srimati Parida alleged involvement of Subash and Chandan in the incident. “Both of them had threatened to kill my son a month ago,” she said.
Laxmisagar police have started an investigation after the body’s post-mortem. The incident had raised question on the efficacy of night patrolling in the area.
