Wizkids, a play school in Cuttack, is a storehouse of knowledge and fun. And kids learn best while having fun, believes principal, Suvarnagauri Roy. With a focus on academic as well as social skills, the school provides each child with the opportunity to build a positive self-image.
“Since ours is a play school, we aim at nurturing the young minds through the extensive use of creative and modern education concepts. The idea is to promote overall development — intellectual, emotional, physical, aesthetic, spiritual and social,” said Roy.
Established in 2006, Wizkids is one of the popular pre-schools here in the city. Roy said it was a challenge to establish a play school at a time when the concept of pre-schooling was not much accepted or seen as fashionable.
“However, things have gradually changed and educated parents are willing to inculcate the habit of discipline among their children from a tender age,” she said.
At present, 50 students have been enrolled here. Hands-on training through fun-filled activities to keep children involved as they learn to identify letters, colours, numbers and concepts by incorporating an integrated curriculum. With this, the school has been able to create a special identity for itself. “We want to boost the creativity of each child with a research-based curriculum and interactive mode of teaching,” said Roy.
An ideal teacher-student ratio is maintained. The students are also taught the “seven petal” approach that includes social behaviour and others elements to prosper as a good human being. “It is perfect grooming that counts the most,” the principal said.
