Bhubaneswar, May 3: Governor S.C. Jamir was admitted to a private hospital last night following high temperature. Jamir, a fitness freak, is in his 80s.
The doctor examining him said: “His condition has improved a lot. He is recovering. He is taking normal food. No more drips are being given to him. Only his close relatives are allowed to meet him. However, we cannot reveal the course of his treatment.”
Sources said necessary check-ups, including blood test, blood pressure, urine and other required tests, have already been done on Jamir. A team of doctors has been constituted to look into the progress of the governor’s health on an hourly basis.
The governor fell ill after he returned from an eight-day foreign tour to South Korea.
“Jamir returned on April 29. Perhaps he could not cope up with the sudden change of weather during the trip. That may have caused the illness,” sources at the governor’s house said.
After his return, he had fever. But no one took it seriously. Despite being ill, he continued to work in his office and appointed the vice-chancellor of North Odisha University. As his condition did not improve, despite treatment by the Raj Bhavan doctors, he was shifted to private hospital.
A security cordon has been thrown around the hospital. However, the hospital authorities kept mum on this issue. Wishes for the governor’s quick recovery are pouring in from various parts of the state cutting across party lines.
