Cuttack, Dec. 6: Two motorcycle-borne goons killed a liquor trader at Bramhanjharilo village in Sadar police station limits today.
The deceased has been identified as Binod Bihari Das, 35, of Thoria Sahi in Mangalabag police station limits.
Sources said that Binod was looking after the liquor shop of his elder brother Rasabihari for the past few years.
Today the criminals first opened fire at the shop and then fired nearly four to five rounds of bullets at Binod, who was supervising the construction of a market complex barely 50 metres from the liquor shop.
Sources said that three employees were inside the shop when the goons came looking for Binod and took away the hard disc of the closed circuit television camera installed there. They then went for Binod and shot him.
Binod, who sustained nearly three bullet injuries, was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
It is suspected that Binod was targeted over past rivalry as he had picked up a quarrel with some of the local residents over a few construction- related contracts in the area.
"It appears that two goons had come to the liquor shop and then killed Binod. We have recovered an empty shell from the spot and investigation is under way," said deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora.
It is the second time that a liquor trader has been murdered in Cuttack. Earlier, a trader was killed at Madhupur on October 23.
In another incident, criminals attacked Prakash Behera, 42, who was recently acquitted in connection with the murder of Seikhbazar Puja committee secretary Keshab Behera in 2013.
Prakash, who was travelling along with one of his friends Purna Chandra Das, was today attacked by six men at sub-treasury office near Lalbagh police station.
