Berhampur, Sept. 16: Criminals drugged an attendant of a patient admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here to death.

The incident took place on Sunday. The goons had robbed him of his mobile phone and Rs 5,000, police said.

Chandra Sekhar Panda, 35, from Bhanjanagar and his wife had visited the hospital with their three-month-old son, who was suffering from pneumonia, on September 12.

As the child was admitted to the state government-run medical facility, Panda slept outside the children’s ward at night. Late at night, the electrical transformer in the area broke down and there was no electricity in the hospital. As a result, Panda woke up.

“There was a power cut at night and, therefore, my husband could not sleep here. Somebody then offered him biscuit and tea after taking which he fell ill and died,” said the wife, who lodged an FIR with BNPur police station yesterday. Panda was found unconscious on September 13 morning and immediately admitted to the hospital. However, after sometime his condition started deteriorating, but he could not be shifted to ICU as it was a holiday, his wife alleged. He then died on Sunday night.

In a similar incident, Trinath Pradhan of Bhetanai in the Polsara police station jurisdiction died after being drugged by someone when he came to visit his sister-in-law at MKCG hospital on March 23.
