Balangir, July 22: Police continue to look for the killers of Raju Nag, 46, a criminal of Balangir. He was shot dead in the town last evening.

The police said the killing was the fallout of enmity between two groups of criminals in the town. The daily market of Balangir and shops at Hospital Chowk remained close today in protest against Raju’s killing.

The police said the incident occurred when the deceased had taken his wife to a physiotherapy clinic near Syndicate Bank at Hospital Chowk for check-up. When Raju’s wife entered the clinic, she heard gunshots outside and saw her husband lying in a pool of blood.

Three persons, who came on a bike, allegedly opened fire at him and fled. Raju’s wife Laxmi Nag said she could not recognise the culprits as they immediately sped away from the place. She said they might be local goons.

The police said the deceased was a criminal and involved in all kind of illegal activities such as tender fixing, gambling, hafta collection and so on. Balangir superintendent of police R. Prakash said there were many cases against Raju at town police station.
