Bhubaneswar, Aug. 11: The Bhubaneswar chapter of the Google Business Group is organising a series of workshops in the city to give a boost to the start-up ecosystem and encourage young entrepreneurs.
A start-up company is an entrepreneurial venture or a new business in the form of a company, a partnership or temporary organisation, which are designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model. People or various types of organisations form a start-up ecosystem in a location to interact as a system to create new companies.
The camps were organised among students in colleges such as the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), College of Engineering and Technology, Xavier University, Bhubaneswar and the Sri Sri University. A number of youngsters, who are interested in coming up with their own companies, also attended the workshops.
The workshops aim to bring like-minded youngsters together, so that they could connect and learn how web technologies can be used to run business. They interacted with young successful entrepreneurs to know more about the tricks of the trade.
"Youngsters these days are not into the nine-to-five jobs and interested into starting something of their own. So, the workshops aim to make them aware about how to utilise skills and use their resources properly," said Ananda Mishra, programme manager of the group, Bhubaneswar.
Following a series of workshops, the group would organise a Startup Weekend at the XIMB from August 14 to 16.
The Startup Weekends are Google-aided events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and young entrepreneurs come together to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch start-ups. Over 2,000 such events in many countries have already been organised.
"The event starts with participants pitching in their ideas of start-ups. They then form teams around the top ideas and spend the rest of the weekend validating and building it aided by local mentors. On the final day, the teams demo their prototypes and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experts," said Mishra.
Around 200 aspiring entrepreneurs would take part in the event.
The top three selected ideas will get a chance to take part in a fest to be held in Hyderabad in the last week of August - where they would meet investors to launch their ideas.
The group consists of business professionals and entrepreneurs from the state - who provide easy access to a large number of experienced angel investors, venture capital firms and organise events and workshops to promote the start-up businesses.
Recently, the group's Bhubaneswar chapter was ranked third among the 160 such communities in the world, including 14 in India.
