Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, May 19: Girls have once again outperformed boys in this year’s ICSE Class X and ISC Class XII examinations, the results for which were announced today.
In all, 99.15 per cent girls and 98.19 per cent boys passed the Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) exam, while 98.35 per cent girls and 96.36 per cent boys passed the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination.
Madhavi Singh of Carmel School in Dhanbad and Shalaka Kulkarni of Sulochana Devi Singhania School in Thane jointly topped the Class X exam, scoring 98.80 per cent marks. Similarly, Rohan Sampat of Dubai Model High School stood first in Class XII exams, scoring 99.50 per cent marks.
The scorching heat in Odisha failed to spoil the plans of students who celebrated their success of clearing the ICSE Class X examinations.
Nishant Thakkar and Ganesh Parida of Loyola School were the twin toppers in Bhubaneswar scoring 97.7 per cent. Piyush Sinha from the same school was the second topper from the city with 97.1 per cent.
Of the 229 students who appeared the exam from Loyola School, 80 have scored more than 90 per cent. Vishal Swain of Venketeshwar School came third with 97 per cent while Taraprasad Mihsra from Stewart School made it to the fourth position with 96.85 per cent.
“I was expecting more than 90 per cent. Now I will be preparing for medical entrance exams,” said Vishal. About 1,000 students from five ICSE schools in Bhubaneswar appeared for the exams. All of them reported 100 per cent pass. Somesh Mohapatra of S.C.B Medical Public School was the topper in Cuttack with 97.6 per cent.
“We knew from beginning that Somesh would be the topper as he is a brilliant student. We are waiting for his return from Rajasthan to congratulate him for his success,” said headmistress Bidyutlata Ojha.
Ojha said a total of 99 students had appeared for the ICSE Class X examination and the school had registered 100 per cent results. Earlier, Gaurav Mishra of the same school had set a record by scoring 98.4 per cent in 2007.
Other leading English medium schools such as Stewart School, New Stewart School, Xaviers School, St. Joseph Girls’ High School have also recorded 100 per cent pass.
Samika Dutta of Cambridge School outperformed others by scoring 97.4 per cent in the examination.
“I am happy about my achievement. All the credit goes to my teachers and parents who have supported me throughout,” said Samika.
Ayankash Patnaik of Stewart School has scored 96.28 per cent.
Samika plans to take admission in the IITs. Samika also excels in painting and dancing, said Somirana Dutta, her father.
This year, 1,32,282 students appeared in the Class X exam, while 59,356 candidates appeared in Class XII exam.
Giving region-wise analysis of the pass percentage, chief executive and secretary of Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, which conducted the examinations, Gerry Arathoon said the Southern region posted the best percentage in both Class XII and Class X.
He said the pass percentage in Class XII in Southern region was 99.35 per cent, while in Class X the figure stood at 99.76 per cent.
