Athletics meet ends

The 55th annual athletics meet of Sainik School Bhubaneswar was held at Gandhi Stadium on the school premises and concluded on January 18. International athlete Pranati Mishra was the chief guest. Cadet Praveen Kumar Hial was named champion athlete among seniors while Cadet Ravi Kumar was the junior champion. Cauvery House received the winners' shield followed by Ganga House as runners-up among the seniors. Yamuna House stood first and received a trophy followed by Godavari House among juniors. More than 600 cadets of 11 hostels presented a spectacular show of karate, mass PT, human pyramid, yoga, aerobics, band and beating the retreat. Principal Kanchan Mukherjee congratulated all the students and staff for making the meet a success.

Music and dance

Children took the stage by storm with music and dance on the inaugural day of the Annual Confluence of Sai Angan. The three-day musical extravaganza started on January 18, with the themes One World and Doyenne.

Welcoming the guests, principal Harish Sanduja said: "The best moment for a child is when their parents and grandparents applaud them for their performance."

While students from playgroup to Class I performed on the first two days, students from Class II and III will take the stage on the final day.

Warm welcome

Sai Krrish Sahu, a Class VI student of DAV Public School, Chandrashekharpur, who has emerged the national painting champion in the junior category of the contest organised by Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas, was given a warm welcome at the airport and the school assembly by the principal and the school staff members.

The state school and mass education department also bagged the first prize for the highest percentage increase in student participation over the previous year for painting competition on energy conservation-2016 organised by the bureau of energy efficiency of the Union power ministry.

The Centre is carrying out yearlong activities to promote energy efficiency all over the country. This year, a record 5,06,534 students from 29,446 schools from the state took part in the competition.

Field trip

Class I and II students of Ravindra Vidya Niketan recently went on a field trip to a village school at Jamudiha. The day began at 9am and on reaching the school, the students distributed warm clothes that they had carried with them. They also shared sweets and bonded with students of the Jamudiha school.

National Youth Day

Students of DAV Public School Pokhariput came together to commemorate the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, also celebrated as National Youth Day.

School principal Sujata said: "Vivekananda strove hard to bridge the gap between races and religions. He believed the youth of the country had tremendous potential that needed to be guided and channelled to achieve nationalistic goals. His teachings goaded the youth to follow a life of service towards the poor and the oppressed, an unbiased outlook towards fellow beings and emphasis on honesty and purity of thought and soul."
