Bhubaneswar, May 13: The second batch of National Institute of Science Education and Research (Niser) here will graduate this June, but a majority of the students have already bagged higher studies and research opportunities in top-notch institutes across the globe.

“Most of the students have multiple offers. This batch has outshone its previous batch in this regard,” said Niser registrar, A.K. Naik.

Students have received offers from various US-based institutes — University of Texas at Houston, University of Florida, University of California, Virginia Tech, Perdue University, University of Stony Brook, Pittsburgh University, University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, Yale University, University of Florida and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Some other varsities to have selected students are Technical University of Delft in Netherlands, International School for Advanced Studies at Trieste in Italy and University of Waterloo in Canada.

“Students have also received offers from Indian universities such as Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics that are considered to be of world-class standard and as good as any foreign university,” said Naik.

The institute is also set to launch PhD programmes under its school of humanities and social science from the coming academic session. The subjects include English, economics, psychology, sociology and philosophy.
