Bhubaneswar, April 2: An engineering student was allegedly killed by his friends in his rented accommodation in Chandrasekharpur this evening.
The deceased, Saroj Sahu, a final-year electrical engineering student of a private engineering college, died after two of his friends assaulted him with wooden planks and iron rods.
Police said Sahu, a native of Naranpur in Keonjhar district, was staying in a rented accommodation, while his friend, and another engineering student, was also staying in another room in the same building.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that Sahu had picked up a fight with his friend and sustained injuries in the fight. Later, Sahu’s friend brought another engineering student and both of them assaulted Sahu together,” said a senior police officer.
Though the exact cause of fight is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect that Sahu’s friend had complained to their landlord about Sahu’s habit of bringing his girlfriend to his room has triggered the fight this afternoon.
“I rushed to the spot on being informed by his family members from Keonjhar. When I reached there, I found Sahu in a profusely bleeding state. I rushed him to the nearest hospital,” said one of his friends.
Sahu was declared brought dead in the hospital. Later, his body was kept in the morgue of Capital Hospital for a post-mortem.
“The two friends who assaulted Sahu fled the spot following his death. But, we managed to nab both of them. We are interrogating both of them,” said police commissioner R.P. Sharma.
