Cuttack, March 24: The crime branch on Tuesday arrested six persons, including four police personnel, for their alleged involvement in the constable recruitment question paper leak case.
The incident had led the authorities to cancel the recruitment examination for 1,370 constable posts on March 15 and this had triggered quite a controversy.
The accused were identified as Dinesh Pradhan, 35, sepoy in 7th Battalion, Bhubaneswar, Biswa Ranjan Muduli, 38, a driver in the same battalion and Bibhuranjan Muduli, 36, another sepoy in the Odisha Special Armed Police 3rd Battalion, Koraput.
Secretary of Odisha Havildar and Sepoys Mahasangha, Kishore Mohanty, 44, a candidate, Mrutyunjay Manasingh, 19, and one Biswajit Mohanty, 39 from Khurda, were also taken into custody.
"Four police officials, one outsider and one examinee have been arrested and further investigation is on," said B.K. Sharma, additional director-general of police (crime branch).
He said the four policemen had been arrested because of concrete evidences against them.
Sources said the four were arrested based on information and evidences supported by a detailed probe by the crime branch's cyber cell.
"Our investigation is on. More persons are being identified and we may make more arrests," Sharma said.
Senior crime branch officials said three out of the six arrested would be brought on remand for further interrogation.
Earlier, the state government had ordered a crime branch probe following the question paper leak that led to the cancellation of the written test for constable recruitment on March 15.
The authorities had shortlisted 19,039 examinees for the written test for the posts of constable after clearing the fitness test held on February 15. The examinees were selected out of the 60,000 applicants from across the state.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that the security seals on the question paper packets were intact in most districts where the examination was scheduled to be held. The crime branch had suspected the role of some insiders in the case.
