Bhubaneswar, Dec. 4: Patha Utsav wore the look of a mini festival today as participants involuntarily broke into dance in tune to irresistible Bollywood and local music.
At two ends of the street fest, held on the stretch from Master Canteen to Ram Mandir, the musical events ruled hearts.
The Ama Kalakar group had music lovers humming in sync with the Akshaya Mohanty songs they performed, while local youth bands played Bollywood chartbusters with enthusiasm.
Sini Jena, a resident of the city's Nayapalli area, who took part in the event held on the theme Ama Sahara, Ama Rasta, said: "The crowd has increased by a large margin since last week. It is great to meet people and make new friends every week."
The activity zone at Patha Utsav witnessed awareness programmes on various social issues.
The People's Cultural Organisation staged a street play to create awareness about AIDS while another youth group hosted a rally chanting slogans on the importance of donating blood.
Underprivileged children were seen dancing in tune with modern songs while a storytelling session was heard with rapt attention. The session was held by Bakul Foundation.
The municipal corporation took the opportunity at the Patha Utsav event today to spread awareness about cleanliness.
Bhubaneswar mayor Ananta Narayan Jena told those gathered at the event about the Swachhata app, a mobile application developed by the Government of India to enable citizens in urban areas associate more readily with the flagship Swachh Bharat Mission.
The app is available for download on Google Playstore. Citizens can give their feedback on the cleanliness of the city and other issues related to sanitation through the app on their Android-based phones.
Uniion minister for urban development M. Venkaiah Naidu had launched Swachh Suvekshan-2017 in August to assess and rank 500 cities and towns based on levels of sanitation and efforts made by the respective urban local bodies.
"We will take immediate action based on the feedback. It is important that all of us come together to keep our city clean. The survey will start from the first week of January and our aim should be to make sure that Bhubaneswar tops the cleanliness chart," said the mayor.
A special kiosk on Swachh Bharat was set up to appeal to citizens to make the city the cleanest in the country.
