Bhubaneswar, July 31: One security guard was killed following fall of an iron plate from an under-construction flyover at Fire Station Square on NH-5 here this afternoon.
The security guard has been identified as Laxmicharan Behera, 52.
Eyewitnesses said that the iron plate, measuring around 4ftX5ft, fell from the flyover and hit Behera, who was sitting under it, on his head.
Behera sustained severe injuries and died on his way to Capital Hospital.
He was a resident of Khallikote in Ganjam district. Officials of the company constructing the flyover said that adequate compensation would be paid to the deceased person’s family members.
In September last year, a three-foot concrete slab fell from a flyover at Jayadev Vihar. However, no one was injured in that accident. Similarly, two concrete slabs had also fallen from the same over bridge in June last year.
Loot cuffs on two
Nayapalli police today arrested two youths for their alleged involvement in a series of robbery incidents in Khurda.
The police have also seized a pistol and two live bullets from their possession.
They were identified as Sahadev Barik, 28, of Nayagarh and Manoj Kumar Malik, 19, of Kandhamal.
A police officer said that both of them were detained by last week in connection with opening fire in front of the residence of a trader at Nayapalli.
“Our interrogations revealed that both of them were involved in a number of dacoity incidents in Balugaon and Khurda district,” said the officer.
