Bhubaneswar, June 25: More than 50 industries have evinced interest to set up their units in the proposed downstream aluminium park, which will come up in Angul.

Official sources said the Bahrain-based MIDAL Cables Limited had applied to the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation Limited (Ipicol) to set up its downstream unit for Rs 300 crore in the proposed park to produce aluminium cable and wire rods.

It will produce 60,000 metric tonnes of hot metal in the first year of operation. The plant will be commissioned within 18 months after handover of the land.

An Indian company, Metal Powder Company Limited, too, has filed an application to produce aluminium powder.

In September 2009, the state-owned Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) and public sector Navaratna company National Aluminium Company (Nalco) signed an MoU to set up the downstream aluminium park.

Idco and Nalco also formed Angul Aluminium Park, a joint venture company, in July 2010 to implement the project.

“Nalco will provide technical know-how, raw material and marketing support,” said micro, small and medium enterprises minister Damodar Rout.

Land has been handed over to Idco to develop the park. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will shortly lay its foundation stone, said Rout.

The requirement of land for the first phase of the park is 250 acres.

Sixty-five acres of government land has been handed over to Idco and sanction of balance government land is under process. Disbursement of relief to land losers for 93.95 acres of private land is going on.

“Angul Aluminium Park Limited floated an expression of interest. More than 50 industries have evinced interest to set up their units in the park,” said Rout.

Apart from a few large industries, several micro, small and medium enterprises have submitted their proposals to start their units.

Tierra Industries will produce aluminium powder, while Synergy Tar Product Private Limited wants to start a coal tar pitch unit and Goyal Industries to produce aluminium extrusion.

Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited is making an assessment about the power requirement and the state water resources department will make arrangements to provide water from the Brahmani river.
