Firearms trade link arrest
Bhubaneswar: The quick action team of police on Sunday arrested two persons and seized two pistols from their possession near Khandagiri. The cops also seized four rounds of ammunition from the duo. The police suspect that the duo, Pipili residents Parikshita Pradhan and Pramod Mangaraj, were running an illegal firearms trade.
CDA vice-chairman
cuttack: IAS officer Sarat Chandra Nayak has been posted as vice-chairman of the Cuttack Development Authority. He was secretary of the office of the revenue divisional commissioner (central). Earlier this month, after the transfer of Subham Saxena from the post, Cuttack Municipal Corporation commissioner Bikash Ranjan Mohapatra had been assigned additional charge as vice-chairman of the urban development body.
Homage to martyr
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan paid tributes to freedom fighter and Odisha’s first martyr in the freedom struggle, Saheed Jayee Rajguru, on his birth anniversary. Naveen said his patriotism and supreme sacrifice for the motherland would forever inspire all.
Minor rescued
balasore: An 11-year old girl, who was rescued by local residents here on Saturday night and lodged at a distress home, has been handed over to her parents after establishment of their identities on Sunday morning. The girl reportedly lost her way when she was going her maternal uncle’s house alone.
Road blockade
angul: Residents of Gurujanguli and Chainpal on Sunday blocked NH-149 at Chainpal overbridge demanding compensation to their houses damaged by elephants. They called off their protest after forest officials assured them of help. The blockade affected traffic for two hours.
Angul award
Angul: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday gave an award to the district collector of Angul, which was selected the best district in the state for “prosperity” in a survey by a national news magazine. The award was handed over at the closing ceremony of Odisha Conclave in Bhubaneswar.
Maoist camp
bhadrak: Police recovered a huge cache of ammunition from a Maoist camp at Chandili forest reserve in Lathore police limits here on Saturday. A search operation was launched after security forces and Maoists were engaged in a fierce gun-battle for two hours on Saturday.
