Fire worry

Bhubaneswar: The city airport director has written to the Khurda district collector and director general of fire services of the Odisha police requesting them to take necessary steps to prevent fire outside the airport boundary. The move followed after a patch of dry bush caught fire close to the airport boundary wall near Gandamunda on Wednesday evening. 

HC judge

Bhubaneswar:  Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad was sworn in as a new judge of the Orissa High Court on Thursday. 

Water supply

Sambalpur: A sump with a storage capacity 2.33 lakh litres of water has been constructed at the district headquarters hospital here to provide adequate and uninterrupted water supply to the health care facility on which a large number of people depend on.

Accident

Sambalpur: Two persons died and another was severely injured when the car they were travelling in hit a stationary truck at Rengali Camp under Attabira police limits of Bargarh district on Thursday. 

Youth dead

Sambalpur: A 20-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a stationary concrete mixture machine in front of the Government Women's College under Dhanupali police station limits of the city on Thursday. 

Fraud charge

Balasore: The economic offence wing of state, which had arrested a former office assistant on the charge of embezzlement of Rs 2 crore of a Gramya bank branch at Ratei under Baliapal block, forwarded him to court on Thursday.  

Mother detained

Angul: Nalco police has detained the mother of a 10-year-old tribal girl, whose rape and murder had shaken the district recently. The cops suspect that the mother of the girl, who was a student of Class II in a local school, could be involved in the crime.

Book launch

Bhubaneswar: E.M. Rao, a professor from the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, has written a book on industrial jurisprudence. The book was launched by the vice-chancellor of Xavier University, Father Paul Fernandes, recently. 

Mishra case

Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Thursday sought the home department’s reply to the audit report of the state vigilance on the basis of which the FIR was lodged against former director general of police Prakash Mishra.
