Balasore, May 8: Mayurbhanj police have arrested a father-son duo on charges of gang-raping a 19-year-old woman.

Ramu (name changed), a 45-year-old resident of Bhimakhanda village, was sent to jail after his bail plea was rejected last evening. His 13-year-old son was produced before the juvenile justice board today.

The father and son had confined the victim in their house for 17 days and raped her.

The victim, a resident of Tileighutu village, had jaundice and had approached Ramu’s father, who prescribes ayurvedic medicine, to cure her. When the victim approached him at Garumohisani weekly market on April 16, he did not have the medicine with him and asked her to accompany him to his house.

When they reached the house, it was late and so she stayed over. At night, Ramu raped her.

Subsequently, his juvenile son too followed Ramu. The two kept her confined in the house till May 3 and repeatedly raped her.

When she managed to flee, the victim complained to the village head Mangal Singh. When Singh asked the duo if this was true, they confessed to their crime.

Later, the victim lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday with the help of village head.

Officer in charge of the Gorumohisani police station P.K. Khandoi said: “The victim’s husband works in Angul and she had come alone to collect the medicine.”

“Ramu and his son raped her while confining the victim in their house. The medical examination of all accused persons and the victim have been carried out,” he said.
