Balangir, June 9: A committee constituted to scrutinize the residential status of some employees of the ordnance factory working as Danger Building Worker (DBW) completed the verification work yesterday.
The committee, headed by Titilagarh sub-collector Biswanath Sahu, had called 189 employees to appear before it for verification of their residential status as they are alleged to have obtained appointments by using false residential certificates. However of the 189 employees, only 75 turned up for scrutiny.
Titilagarh sub-collector, Sahu said scrutiny was done in three phases. “We did it in three phases on April 4, April 21 and June 8. In the first phase, 56 of the 67 employees appeared before the committee while in the second phase only 6 of the 67 employees turned up and in the third phase only 13 of the 55 employees were present before the committee. We have completed scrutiny work and I will send a final report to the district collector within seven days,” Sahu said.
Sources said several persons from outside Balangir district had got appointment as DBW, which is a class IV post and only locals are considered for such posts. However, during the recruitment in 1997, several persons from coastal Orissa had got job by producing fake residential certificates.
Convener of Balangir District Unemployed Youth Organisation Santanu Naik said: “In 1997, the factory management had conducted a recruitment to appoint some DBWs which is a class IV post meant for local people only. However, several people from coastal Orissa got appointment allegedly using fake certificates. One Lalit Mahanand had moved high court which directed the district collector and the factory management to conduct inquiry into the allegation in 1998.”
“For 13 years neither the district administration nor the factory management did anything. It is after our repeated perusal that the verification of the residential status of the concerned employees has been done,” he said.
