Balangir: A man of Kapsila village alleged that one unidentified person had created fake accounts on social media in his name to abuse local politicians and other influential people of Tusura area.

Dhirendra Mishra, the victim, on Tuesday lodged a police complaint in connection with the incident after some of his acquaintances had brought the matter to his knowledge. The police have registered a case and begun inquiry.

Sources said a person had created accounts on social media - such as Facebook and WhatsApp - using Mishra's name. He has even used Mishra's photograph as his profile picture. He is using the account to abuse politicians such as Gudvela block chairman Ashok Dora, Paschim Odisha Adivasi Mahasangh secretary general Niranjan Bishi, senior BJP leader Premananda Sahu and journalist Manoj Jain.

Mishra said that after the targeted people had called him up to check veracity of the posts, he came to know about the fake accounts. "Someone has created fake accounts on social media such as Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp, using my name and picture. He is using these fake accounts to call up politicians and other influential people and abusing them using filthy language. I came to know about the fake accounts when some of them called me up to know if it was actually me," he said.

Tusura police station inspector-in-charge Panchanan Nayak said: "We have registered the case and begun investigation. We have asked for the call detail record, which will help to bring the culprit to book."
