Legal service

Addressing students of Siksha-O-Anusandhan (SOA) University on May 28 through the community radio of the varsity, Sashikanta Mishra, member secretary of the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA), said the Lok Adalat, an alternative dispute resolution system, had been of immense help to clear case backlog. The free legal aid has also come as a boon to the poor. Mishra also said the National Legal Services Authority, constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, aimed to provide free legal services to the weaker section of the society and organise Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes, thereby lessening the burden on courts.

His talk on legal aid for the people was broadcast on Voice of SOA Community (90.4FM) radio channel. The talk also featured OSLSA deputy secretary of Biswajit Mohanty and Cuttack legal services authority secretary Soumyak Patra. Bhubaneswar legal services authority secretary Sweta Mishra was also present at the meet. The students learned about the alternate dispute resolution systems, which is currently operational in the country.
