Bhubaneswar: Sailashree Vihar residents have demanded certain provisions at the park currently being redeveloped in their area under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme.

Local residents, mainly women, under the Sailashree Vihar Mahila Sangathan banner, met civic officials and submitted a list of demands to the city engineer.

Expressing happiness over selecting a park in their area, they asked for facilities to hoist the national flag during Independence and Republic Day celebrations.

They also asked to reconstruct the park pathway, which is unusable at present. "The pathway has become unusable. We request you to reconstruct it in view of the beauty of the surroundings and safety of users," the letter reads. They have also demanded provisions to install two statues on the sides of the main entrance. The civic body is spending Rs 51 lakh on the redevelopment.

"We have submitted the letter for facilities according to residents' need," said its general secretary Sipra Sarkar.

Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said the project contractor would be intimated about the demands. "The city engineer will coordinate with the contractor and look after whether the facilities can be incorporated," said Jena.
