Cuttack, Nov. 2: An expert team will shortly inspect the identified site for the proposed second deer park in here.

The high-level team comprising officials of the environment and forest department would conduct an assessment of the two-acre land earmarked by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) by the end of this week.

The proposed site has been identified at Uttamapur on the outskirts of the city near Subhadrapur, which falls under ward No. 56, 8km from Link Road.

The CMC had identified the land in June.

"We have earmarked the land for the second deer park and we have requested the principal chief conservator of forests to inspect the site and let us know if it is suitable for the project," said CMC commissioner Gyana Das.

Work will begin once the team gives the go-ahead.

"It will take around six or seven months to get the facilities ready," Das said.

The visit of the team assumes significance as the much-awaited project had been gathering rust for the past five years. Though the civic body had earlier identified a patch of land at Bhadimula, it was found to be unsuitable. The site was prone to flooding during the monsoon.

The second deer park project at Uttamapur will be crucial since it would resolve the issue of overcrowding at the sole deer park at Madhusudan Nagar, located on the banks of the Mahanadi. The excess deer population from the park at Madhusudan Nagar would be relocated here.
