Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Triennial of International Art (OTIA) to be hosted in Bhubaneswar, Puri and Konark was recently launched in Mumbai. The event aims to encourage artists to take part in the event.
Artists, academics, and art lovers from across the country will be a part of the event. They will take part in several art camps, exhibitions, seminars and discussion sessions.
The event is an initiative of Artists Network for Promoting Indian Culture (ANPIC), which is an organisation that promotions art, craft and culture. Curator and art historian Johny ML has been roped in for the festival as its curatorial director.
"I have envisioned an international triennial in which local aesthetics will be displayed with the international art. My idea is to create a glocal feeling about art and culture through the OTIA platform by integrating art, music, dance, theatre, film, craft and literature," Johny ML said.
The 40-day event will have about 100 topmost Indian artists representing various forms of art. The exhibitions in OTIA will be catalogued and there will be collateral publications and programmes.
Artists Jatin Das, Sudhir Patwardhan, Prabhakar Kolte, K.S.Radhakrishnan, Ravider Reddy, Jogen Chowdhury and Laxma Gowd are likely to be a part of the event.
"Odisha is well equipped to host great achievers of Indian and international art. Besides, OTIA will give a boost to the tourism and cultural of the state," said Lok Sabha MP Pinaki Misra at the launch.
The slogan of the triennial is "Conceive-Contemplate-Communicate."
The event has been categorised into seven sections - When East met West, It's Indian, By the way, Turning the Wheel, Gods of the Earth, Sapiens, In This Great Future and Along the Way.
Earlier, the OTIA was launched in New Delhi and Bhubaneswar. "We will promote it in other major cities of the country so that more and more artists take interest and join the event," said Sashanka Mohapatra from the organising team.
