Sambalpur: The public works department's assistant executive engineer Narayan Patel has written a letter to the Sambalpur municipal council commissioner stating that the public health department's executive engineer has encroached on a road at Motijharan and is constructing a wall on it.
The copy of the letter has been given to the Sambalpur collector.
This type of unplanned construction will develop traffic congestion and lead to fatal accidents, the letter said, adding that the portion of the road had recently been widened by the works department.
The letter requested the municipal commissioner to take steps for eviction of encroachment and instruct the health department authority to take up construction in a proper manner after due planning and approval and by ensuring that the beauty of the city was not affected in any manner.
The detailed area map, land revenue record and photograph of the construction of boundary wall have been attached with the letter in support of the allegation.
The health department's executive engineer M.R. Nanda told The Telegraph that he had no knowledge about the letter nor any official had consulted him on the issue. "We have taken up the boundary wall to cover the portico in front of the office which had been turned into a thoroughfare by the people. We have widened the road and provided sufficient space for vehicular traffic," he said.
