Bhubaneswar, May 17: A drama staged on the occasion of the 56th foundation day of Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) received a great response from the audience for its unique plot.

Titled Di Topa Luha, the play focused on the bond between two communities.

Reshma, a village girl from a Muslim family, is ill-treated and abused by Bijay, the son of the zamindar of the village.

Though Hindu, the zamindar ensures that his son is married to Reshma so that justice is done to the girl and his son understands human values in the process. However, Bijay is indifferent to her and even his mother mistreats Reshma and taunts her as she belongs to another religion. Even her family members react in a similar manner. Reshma, however, despite all odds, makes efforts with her father-in-law’s help to bring the two families closer. With her dedication, she finally succeeds in helping all members of the families realise that a little adjustment can develop a strong bond of love between people of any religion.

The audience was deeply impressed by the plot of the play.

“The play showed the right message for communal harmony. People from both sides have some ego clashes and the result is imposed on hundreds of members of both communities. But a little adjustment can make a lot of difference,” said Purnima Nanda, who was present in the audience.

The play was written by Golak Moharana and directed by Sitakanta Mohanty.

“We tried to depict how two different communities can come together if there are some positive efforts by a handful of people. With communal tensions growing all over the world, it was encouraging that the play was appreciated by the audience here,” said Mohanty.

Present at the programme were officials of OMC, industrial and parliamentary affairs minister Raghunath Mohanty and industries commissioner Manoj Ahuja. The programme was held at Rabindra Mandap on Monday evening.
