Cuttack, May 4: The much-hyped demolition drive against illegal religious structures on road or government land was not taken up today as the administration had decided to keep it suspended during the weekend.
“It’s only a routine decision keeping the weekend in view. The demolition work will be resumed on Monday,” Cuttack deputy commissioner of police Pravin Kumar told The Telegraph.
The drive was launched on May 1. It continued yesterday after a day’s break because of the shutdown on May 2.
So far, three minor roadside structures of religious nature have been demolished. The drive is on at Bedanta Ashram.
In another development, a delegation of the Cuttack Mahanagar Shanti Committee today met law minister Maheswar Mohanty, seeking his intervention in the drive.
