Balangir: Adivasi Dalit Adhikar Manch, a district-based organisation, has announced that it will oppose BJP president Amit Shah's visit here on Thursday.

The members of the outfit said that the NDA government led by the BJP in the Centre was following an anti-dalit and anti-tribal agenda. They said that the central government was trying to curb the rights of the dalits and tribals.

Convener of Adivasi Dalit Adhikar Manch Dinesh Nag said that the government at the Centre was trying to clip wings of the dalit and tribal by different policy decisions. "Such acts by the government will not be tolerated and the tour of the BJP president will be opposed with all strength," he said. Nag said: "Shah had food at a dalit's house every time he visited Odisha. We are also opposing such drama by the BJP president."

The situation became tense after the Balangir unit of BJP lodged a complaint with the Balangir town police accusing the members of the outfit of destroying hoardings and posters of BJP president during observing bandh on Monday. However, the members of the outfit have refused the allegations. They said: "Since BJP has lodged complaint at police station against us, therefore no dalit or tribal should attend the BJP president Amit Shah's programme in Balangir".

In Kalahandi, the district Congress is getting ready to oppose Shah's visit. Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das said the Congress would oppose the Kalahandi tour of the BJP president democratically. "The party has cheated on the people of the country by promising two crore job every year. He will have to answer the tough questions," Das said. Shah will address a farmers rally in Bhawanipatna and a youth rally in Balangir during his two-day tour to Kalahandi and Balangir on Wednesday and Thursday. The BJP president will also lay foundation of district BJP office at Dhumamara in the outskirt of Balangir.
