Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday wrote to the Thailand embassy in Delhi, intimating them about the rescue of three of its nationals allegedly involved in a sex racket here.
The three Thai nationals, along with two other women, were rescued on Friday during a raid on the spa at Kharavela Nagar.
The police said they had requested the embassy to ascertain the antecedents of the three woman, all of whom are in their 30s.
"Prima facie we found them to have been employed at the spa despite being in the country on tourist visa. We also found their CVs during the raid. They have been sent to a short-stay home near Jatani on the city outskirts," said a police officer.
The police have also decided to serve a notice to the house owner, a renowned city-based businessman, to ascertain whether he was aware of the illegal trade. "We are also trying to nab the spa owner," said deputy commissioner of police, Bhubaneswar, Satyabrata Bhoi.
The cops on Friday raided Heaven Thai Spa and arrested two employees and two customers.
The centre was allegedly providing massage and sex services for Rs 1,800 to Rs 4,000 to a client. The entrance to the spa was under CCTV surveillance to keep a watch on the customers, said a police officer.
The police also suspect that a number of influential people frequented the spa.
"We have seized a diary containing the names and phone numbers of the clients. It also contained details of financial transactions with them. The spa earned more than Rs 40,000 daily," said a police officer.
Unearthing the sex racket in the guise of a Thai spa has brought several other such spas under police radar. Sources said around 20 women from Thailand are engaged in various spas across the city.
"We will also conduct raids on other spas to find out whether any illegal activity was taking place. We will also check the visas of the Thai nationals," a cop said.
