Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9: Police are still collecting closed-circuit television camera footages from cameras installed along Thursday’s rally venue to identify the persons who assaulted woman constable Pramila Padhi.
They are also collecting video footages and still photographs from different sources.
“We are compiling the footages from various sources. After we get all the photographs of the accused involved in the assault on constable Pramila Padhi, we will send these to all police stations in the state and seek their help in arresting them,” said deputy commissioner of police Nitinjeet Singh.
Padhi, 39, is still undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Sources said that she was recuperating.
“I want the culprits to be punished,” said Padhi.
Singh said once Padhi recovered fully, she would be taken for a test identification parade to identify her assaulters among the 34 persons arrested on Friday, who are currently at Jharapda jail.
In another development, the women’s wing of the Congress today lodged complaints against the DCP and the police as a whole for attacking female Congress workers and using abusive languages when their rally turned violent on Thursday.
Fifteen women activists, along with state president of women Congress Bijayalaxmi Sahu, lodged complaints against the DCP this evening. “On that day, the police attacked the women activists who had no role in the violence and the DCP hurled abusive languages at them and ordered his forces to attack us,” said Sahu.
Inspector in charge of Mahila police station Iti Das said she had received 14 complaints lodged by these women. “We are verifying the allegations,” said Das.
Singh said that after the magistrate declared Thursday’s crowd as unlawful because of their violent activities, they were ordered to disperse them. The mob was told several times to vacate the area.
