Cuttack, June 1: Police have drawn a blank three days since the relatives of a patient admitted in SCB Medical College and Hospital here alleged assault by junior doctors.

Not only have the cops failed to make headway in identifying the alleged assailants, hospital authorities have also not taken any action against the perpetrators.

However, SCB Medical College and Hospital dean and principal Sidhartha Das said an internal inquiry was on in the incident and they had formed a four-member internal committee to probe into the incident. The committee includes three professors and an administrative officer.

He told The Telegraph: "The committee has been asked to submit its report at the earliest. We will take action on the basis of the commitee's report."

The incident occurred at the orthopaedic department on Monday afternoon and the patient's wife lodged an FIR with Manglabag police station.

The police registered a case of assault and started investigations on Tuesday, but was hamstrung by the lack information on the eight doctors in the FIR.

Sources said the FIR mentioned just the first names or surnames, creating difficulty in identifying the perpetrators. The police have sought details of the eight junior doctors mentioned in the FIR from the medical college authorities.

"We are awaiting the report from the dean and principal. It is necessary to identify and trace the eight junior doctors," Manglabag police station inspector-in-charge Arun Kumar Swain said.

Sources said the police expected the authorities to help them identify the eight doctors by providing their contact numbers, present and permanent addresses.

"As part of the investigation, we have already visited the orthopaedic ward and recorded statements of the victims and some others who were present during the incident and gathered evidences, including the blood-stained clothes of the victims," Swain said.

The cops have already received the victims' injury report and sought treatment details of the patient from the hospital superintendent.

They are probing into allegations that a group of junior doctors had pushed two friends of the patient's father-in-law into a room and assaulted them with broomsticks, buckets and rods, causing injuries.
