Bhubaneswar, April 25: The Facebook page of city police has become an interactive platform for the residents of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to communicate with the police. The residents have posted hundreds of complaints and suggestions to improve policing.
The page, which was launched in November last year, has so far registered more than 8,560 likes. Though the police had initially blocked users from seeing the posts by others citing security reasons, resentment among the residents forced the police to make all the comments and suggestions public.
While most of the comments and suggestions on the page are related to traffic issues, several active social media users are also raising their crime-related complaints on the platform. A number of residents are also complaining of non-receipt of copies of FIR by police stations.
The police have been updating crime-related developments through their Facebook page. Besides, traffic-advisory is also being posted regularly. An officer of the rank of additional deputy police commissioner has been entrusted with the job of monitoring the page.
However, residents feel that the platform will be able to serve its purpose fully only when complaints posted by them are properly addressed.
“Many of us have been raising several civic issues through the page. But, the suggestions made by us are yet to be implemented. Though we are happy that the page has become a interactive platform, the police should post real-time feedbacks to the citizens,” said Piyush Rout, a frequent visitor to the page.
However, police commissioner R.P. Sharma said that the police had ensured their response to all online posts.
“We are ensuring that suggestions that are worth being implemented are put into action. We will feed real-time information regarding traffic to make the page more interactive,” said Sharma.
