Bhubaneswar, Oct. 17: Around 90 platoons of armed police personnel, six quick reaction teams, counter squads and special operations group jawans will be on their toes to keep revellers safe during Durga Puja.

Police commissioner R.P. Sharma said that priority would be given to traffic management in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

"Apart from police deployment, 13 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in 13 locations along the immersion routes in Cuttack to keep a strict watch on mischief-makers," said Sharma.

The Union home ministry has directed all state governments, including Odisha, to deploy additional security forces in crowded and sensitive places such as markets, religious places, railway stations and bus terminals, which could be targeted by militants during the festive season, in view of intelligence inputs of five militants sneaking into India.

Police officials said that along with traffic management, crowd control near the pandals would be top priority for them.

"We have asked the Puja committees to deploy adequate volunteers near the pandals for crowd management. Besides, we have also asked them to install CCTVs near the pandals to curb crimes, especially snatching," said a police official.

Police have intensified night patrolling in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to curb crimes.

"Special teams would be deployed at busy market places in the evening hours to prevent incidents of looting and snatching. Besides, a drive against the sale of illegal liquor in the twin cities has also been started," said a senior police official.
