Bhubaneswar, June 3: Two families from different parts of the city today met the new deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Nitinjeet Singh, to complain against police officers in their areas for not taking up their cases seriously.
Renubala Routray (33) from Aravind Nagar area under Chandrasekharpur police station complained that her neighbours had attacked her and her family because of previous enmity. Although she lodged a complaint with the Chandrasekharpur police it soft-pedalled the case.
Similarly, Mumtaz Bibi from Barahala village under Balipatna police station complained that her 14-year-old daughter was raped by a youth in her neighbourhood. Although the family members had lodged a complaint with the Balipatna police, they had not taken any steps to nab the accused.
Renubala said that a group of goons led by their neighbours attacked them with sharp weapons.
However, she said the police, instead of taking action against the accused, let them go free. “Despite several requests the police did not listen to us. Instead they threatened us that they would implicate my husband in false cases and send him to jail,” said Renubala.
She said that the DCP assured them to take steps against the accused and he had given the responsibility to the assistant commissioner of Police of Zone VI to investigate into the matter.
In the other incident Mumtaz complained that her husband Sk. Kalim had lodged a complaint on May 17 with the police to take steps against a 21-year-old youth Akshar Khan and his father.
“My daughter is six months pregnant now. We tried to resolve the matter but Akshar’s family members threatened us. We lodged a complaint with the police. They did not take any step although 15 days have passed,” said Mumtaz.
She, however, added that the DCP had assured her to look into the matter.
