Balangir: Authorities of the Rajendra (Autonomous) College here on Saturday revoked the decision of increasing the certificate preservation fee from students, who had passed from the institute, after members of the local unit of All India Democratic Students' Organisation staged a demonstration demanding rollback of the increased fee.

The fee for collection of certificates from the college had been Rs 100 and now increased to Rs 600 as preservation fee by the college authority.

Though members of the students' outfit gathered in front of the entrance to the administrative block, they withdrew after principal in charge of the college Binaya Ranjan Jena conceded to their demand.

"The college administration was unable to issue certificates to them for eight years. Many students suffered for this lapse. In April and May, certificates had been issued, but only for a few days. But, many failed to turn up as they didn't have the information. Now, they increased the fee from Rs 100 to Rs 600 in the name of preservation fee. We demand repeal of the decision," Bhoi said.

"We have held back the hike temporarily, and the students can now collect their certificate for the old rate of Rs 100," Jena said.
