Bhubaneswar, Oct. 4: Little scientists from 34 Kendriya Vidyalayas of the state showcased models on energy resources at the regional-level 21st National Children’s Science Congress.
Organised at the Kendriya Vidyalaya on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) campus today, the projects were based on effective energy management and conservation.
The two-day event saw participation of more than 120 students and teachers. “The aim of this event is to stimulate interest of students in science and technology. It also aims at promoting participation of children from Kendriya Vidyalayas at National Children Science Congress 2013 to be organised by the department of science and technology, government of India, in Bhopal,” said principal of the school P.C. Ratha.
Budding scientists have been divided into two groups, junior (10-14 years) and senior (14-17 years), said Ratha. He said that judges from Utkal University, IIT- Bhubaneswar and other reputed institutions of the city would be judging the projects.
A total of 20 projects will be sent to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan National Children’s Science Congress. “It was a wonderful experience to take part in the congress. The best part is that we get to interact with the students and get more ideas by seeing and learning from other projects,” said Simanchal, a student.
“The need of the hour is make students realise the relationship between science, technology and society and encourage scientific temper among the young minds. We have chosen themes on energy and have asked students to come up with need-based technology at low cost and locally available resources that will make life easier for common people with the use of energy,” said Ratha.
CRPF deputy inspector general S.K. Mishra, who graced the occasion as the chief guest, advised teachers to encourage students to ask questions and enhance inventiveness and innovation in them.
