Bhubaneswar, Aug. 25: Higher education minister Badri Naryan Patra today said students who are unable to furnish college leaving certificate (CLC) during junior college spot admissions on August 27 would be allowed to enrol themselves by signing an undertaking.
According to e-admission rules, candidates who had already taken admission against colleges low on their list of preferred colleges, but have now been upgraded to a college that they listed higher in their order of preference, are required to produce the CLC at the newly allotted college to take admissions. However, in case candidates fail to obtain the certificate by August 27, an extension of seven days is granted to them, the minister said.
“My department will take up the matter of extending the date for submitting CLCs. Accordingly, a direction will be issued to the colleges.
“We will ensure that no student is harassed or deprived of admissions for their inability to produce the certificate during spot admissions,” Patra said.
Earlier, following the e-admission process, the applicants had to produce the CLC on the day of admission failing which the candidate would be debarred from taking admission.
This rule was modified during the second round of admissions and the time for submitting the CLC was extended.
At the time of enrolment, candidates simply had to submit an undertaking stating that they would submit their CLC within a week. The modified rule will stand for the balance seats or spot admissions too, the minister said.
This news has brought relief to thousands of students. “Though my name has been shortlisted in the spot admission list in my preferred college, I was anxious about whether or not I would be able to submit my CLC at the time of admission. Thankfully, we will get extra time and I just need to sign an undertaking,” said Sushmita Rath, an applicant.
Principal of BJB (Junior) College, S.N. Mohanty, said college authorities have been instructed by the department to allow seven days’ time to candidates to furnish their CLCs.
“Measures are being taken to make the e-admission process student friendly,” he said.
