Bhubaneswar, Jan. 2: The state government will soon set up a textiles training hub at Jayadev Vihar to ensure an efficient training management system for the entrepreneurs.
The centre will provide management information systems course, which is the computer application related to managerial programs. It aims to upgrade skills of youngsters with respect to the industry requirement, along with promoting commercial experimentation of new products, mixed and matched variety in yarn, fabric engineering processes and product innovation.
The State Institute for Development of Arts and Crafts (SIDAC) under the handloom, textile and handicrafts department of the state will set up the training centre.
It is expected to have a turnaround effect in handloom, power loom and allied sectors in an integrated manner," said A. P. Dash, managing director, SPINFED. The project cost has been estimated at Rs 467.87 lakh.
The centre will have facilities to encourage artisans to come up with contemporary designs for handloom products. "It will assist entrepreneurs to take advantage of modern facilities that will help to achieve greater profitability along with up gradation of necessary skill. Work on the project will begin in a month," Dash said.
The government has also submitted a proposal for sanction of 13 cluster development projects during the current year to the central government. The clusters aim at linking major handicraft and handloom producing clusters with tourism. The centres will serve as a one-stop destination for travellers.
Last year, the government had set up a common facility centre at Khandagiri to provide skill development training and encourage bulk production facility for craftsmen.
The centre will also have SIDAC support for lamination tools, sewing and embroidery machines.
"The initiatives taken by the department aim at enabling craftsmen to transform from individualised labour intensive process to easier production method to increase their economic standard by using modern machineries and equipment. The focus is on linking tourism with handloom," said textiles and handicrafts minister Snehangini Chhuria.
