Bhubaneswar: Cannes International Film Festival, scheduled to commence from May 12, will include screening of God’s Own People, a documentary on Nabakalebar of Lord Jagannath. Tourism and culture minister Ashok Chandra Panda has left for Paris for this. Panda hoped that the screening of the documentary would garner appreciation worldwide on Rath Yatra and other rituals relating to Lord Jagannath. Besides, it will help boost the state's tourism potential, especially attracting foreigners in religious tourism, he said.

Body found

Balasore: Nilgiri police have registered a case of murder and initiated a probe after  the body of a college-going girl was found hanging under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday. Three suspects are under interrogation, said a police officer. 

ICSE topper

Bhubaneswar: Abineet Parichha, who topped the ICSE, was on Tuesday felicitated by Congress leaders at a ceremony held here. Parichha a student of Little Flower School, Balangir, had secured 99.2 per cent with 100 marks each in mathematics, social science and computers, 98 marks in science and English and 96 in Odia. He said he would try his best to work for the state.

Water protest

Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Pradeep Majhi on Tuesday cut off the drinking water pipeline connecting the Malkangiri district collector's office. Majhi led a procession of tribal people protesting against the scarcity of drinking water, irregular power supply and ration card bungling. The Congress also gave a call for an indefinite agitation against the district administration's failure to address the issues.

Suspension

Bhubaneswar: Senior superintendent of Berhampur Circle Jail Raghunath Majhi on Tuesday suspended warder Chinamaya Pradhan and transferred another warder, Mongul Sethi, for  negligence of duty. The step comes in the wake of a raid on the jail during which many objectionable items, including weapons, were found in the cell, in which former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena is lodged.

UPSC result

Bhubaneswar: Odia candidates have been successful in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination-2015, the results of which were announced on Tuesday. Among the successful candidates from the state was Divyajyoti Parida, who was ranked 26th.

Three killed

Paradip: Three persons, including a woman and a girl child, were killed and three others critically injured when the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with an oil tanker at Sandhapur in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday. The car was on way to Bhubaneswar from Paradip.
