Honour for kiss

Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has been approved by the United Nations Department of Public Information. KISS is among 1,300 NGOs across the world to get this approval. It will disseminate information and raise public awareness about the purposes and activities of the United Nations and issues of global concern and get and give support to UN at the international, regional, national and community levels.

Tata plant

Berhampur: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated a ferrochrome plant by Tata Steel at a cost of Rs 542 crore in its Gopalpur Industrial Park in Ganjam district. The plant is environment-friendly unit with state-of-the-art  equipment for pollution control.

Notes found

Bhubaneswar: Police recovered Rs 4.8 lakh in denominations of the scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from the toilet of the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express on Wednesday. The Government Railway Police arrested three persons in this connection. 

Rain likely

Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha are likely to experience rain from Thursday under the influence of cyclone Nada. The cyclonic storm over southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is moving in the north and northwest direction, the Met department said.

Maoists 

Bhubaneswar: Around 103 Maoist supporters surrendered before the superintendent of police in Malkangiri district on Wednesday. All those who surrendered were identified as residents of Idikonda village under Kalimela block in the district. Among them, 29 were active members of the militia, said sources.

Five injured

Balasore: Five persons were injured in Balasore district on Wednesday when a truck, Scorpio and a dumper collided on NH 5 near Khandapada. The injured have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital at Balasore, said sources.
